Lionel 224 Vintage O 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive (Early) with 2466W Tender

Here is a Lionel 224 Vintage O 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive (Early) with 2466W Tender from 1945 only. It features the flat back cab floor, black handrails, and an atypical drawbar that fit into an oval hole in the tender floor. The 224 is one of the few Lionel engines made in both the Prewar and Postwar eras. It features a die cast metal body, motor, 3-position E-Unit, and an operating headlight. It does not have a smoke unit, which is why it was dropped from the Lionel line after 1946 and replaced by the smoking 675/2025 engines. A 2466W Tender is included which features a plastic shell, metal frame, whistle, operating knuckle coupler, die cast trucks, metal wheels and axles.

Brought onto the scene in the late 19th century and continuing use into the early 20th century, the 2-6-2 was a durable little model with some even surviving through the first World War seeing continued use in smaller capacities. These models were used for a variety of purposes from hauling coal loads to pulling smaller passenger cars. The North American model soon became known as the "Prairie" model and would quickly become a favorite in rail-yards around the world!

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-5: Good based on visual appearance. There are scuffs and scratches present on this locomotive and tender. The whistle tender rattles when whistling. THere is a large crack in the front corner of the tender shell. The locomotive runs without issue. The original box is not included. Please check the photos for a detailed look at this item.
