Lionel 6-8578 O Gauge New York Central Motorized Ballast Tamper Car EX/Box

Here is a Lionel 6-8578 O Gauge New York Central Motorized Ballast Tamper Car from 1985. This is a reissue of the Postwar Era 54 Ballast Tamper. It features a set of small pile drivers on the front that move up and down and "tamp" down the ballast rock along the track. The tamping action is controlled by track activators. When the tamping action is activated, the motor slows down to half speed.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent based on visual appearance. The car has scratches and nicks on the chassis. A layer of shelf dust has settled onto the shell. The wheels and rolling pickups show signs of average use. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is included. Please check the photos for a detailed look at this item.
