Lionel 6-8578 NYC Motorized Ballast Tamper Car LN

Here is a Lionel 8578 New York Central Motorized Ballast Tamper Car from 1985. This is a reissue of the Postwar Era 54 Ballast Tamper. It features a set of small pile drivers on the front that move up and down and “tamp“ down the ballast rock along the track. The tamping action is controlled by track activators (not included). When the tamping action is activated, the motor slows down to half speed.
