Lionel 221 Vintage O Rio Grande Alco Powered AA Unit Diesel Locomotive Set VG

Here is a Lionel 221 Vintage O Rio Grande Alco Powered AA Unit Diesel Locomotive Set. The 221 Alco diesel made a brief appearance in 1963 and 1964. During its two-year appearance, the 221 carried three difference roadnames; Rio Grande (1963 and 1964), United States Marine Corps (1964 only) and Santa Fe (1964 only). The Rio Grande was the only diesel of the three 221s to be catalogued. While the Rio Grande is a common item, the United states Marine Corps is a rare item and the Santa Fe is extremely scarce. This Rio Grande features a yellow molded body with black lettering and stripes, traction tire, two-position E-unit and a non-operating rear coupler. It does not contain illumination and there is no front coupler. It also lacks a frame box between the trucks. This set has two of these locomotives.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. One of the locomotives operates and light up when powered, but the other does neither when powered. There are signs of There are nicks and scratches on the surface of the shells and chassis of both locomotives. The wheels and rolling pickups show signs of average use. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. There are smudges and stains on both locomotives that may be difficult or unable to be removed. Overall condition is Very Good.
