LGB 20542 BRASS Ltd NYC J-3a Hudson 4-6-4 Steam Loco & Tender with Sound EX/Box

This is a handsome model of New York Central’s most successful steam locomotive. This is one of a very limited edition models of which only 600 were produced, they were built by ASTER for LGB in 2000 and were hand made of Brass and Steel. The prototype of Aster/LGB’s Hudson #5405 operated over the mainlines of the New York Central for nearly 30 years. It’s most noteworthy accomplishment, after being equipped with a larger tender, was hauling the Twentieth Century Limited passenger train, and other first class trains, between Harmon, NY (32 miles north of New York City) and Chicago, a distance of 928 miles (1493 km), without engine change! Equally remarkable was the Century’s schedule behind a Super Hudson: 16 hours - more than 2 hours faster than the current Amtrak Schedule with diesel power. It pulled a train of 3.6 million pounds at 60 mph.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent based on visual appearance. The locomotive is missing a trim pieces form the right side steam chest. The locomotive's grab-iron pieces at the cab entrance are slightly bent. The tender's grab-iron piece on the nose end of the shell is broken and partially detached. A layer of shelf dust has settled onto the locomotive and tender. The locomotive and tender show scratches and spots of paint loss throughout various sections of the shell and chassis.
